Comfortable Driving is some of the best sort of driving, because it’s comfortable. So, here’s a look at some of my favorite cars, and favorite tips and advice, for comfortable long-haul travels.
After a comfortable driving machine that’s good on gas, tranquil to drive, and built for relaxation and socialization on the open road? These are some of my favorites.
The Chevrolet Impala , because it’s big, quiet, comfy as heck, has power to spare, and turns in the best real-life mileage I’ve ever recorded in a big, 300-horsepower car. The OnStar system adds confidence if you’re travelling far from home, too. Look for a 3.6 litre V6 engine with direct injection and variable valve timing, spinning up power to spare, and great cruising mileage.
The Lexus ES 300h, because it’s tranquil, great on fuel, very quiet, roomy, and carefully tuned for a peaceful driving experience. This one rides with creaminess, and nearly hovers over well-maintained roads. Wind and tire noise are muted well, and the steering is light and lazy. Plus, since its a fuel-sipping hybrid, you get plenty of hours of driving between stops to refuel.
The Nissan Maxima, because it has a stand-out cockpit design, heaps of power, looks classy, rides nicely, and has a discreetly potent hot-rod side that doesn’t compromise its cruising comfort levels. Like the Impala, the new Maxima turned in about the best mileage I’ve ever seen from a big car with this much power. This one’s big on style, performance and comfort, nicely balanced.
